August 2017 OJUG Recap - Adam Davis on Groovy at Canvs

We had a great meeting with Adam Davis presenting on Groovy. Our co-working space Canvs, formerly at Church Street Station opened up a new office in Winter Park and we had our meeting there.
Adam covered much of Groovy's basic functionality. If I had one wish, it would have been for Adam to include a little more explanation about configuring Groovy. I think we all walked away with enough Groovy knowledge under our belts to hit the ground running with Groovy after the talk.

Adam posted his presentation slides here: https://www.slideshare.net/AdamDavis30/learning-groovy-1-half-day-workshop

Adam's written a book on Groovy available here: http://www.apress.com/us/book/9781484221167

Thanks, Adam!

I just dropped by Canvs this morning and talked with Necole Pynn, the Managing Director, about having our next meeting there.

For those of you who haven't visited Canvs, it's a coworking space in downtown Orlando. Basically, you can work at this beautiful, vibrant facility in an unassigned community space for $25/day, $100/mo (part time=8 days) or $250/mo for full time (every working day). Basically, you can work at this beautiful, vibrant facility in an unassigned community space for $25/day, $100/mo (part time=8 days) or $250/mo for full time (every working day). There's dedicated space, too. That's a bit more in cost but one big advantage is you can leave your gear there in your own space.

And, for community meetings, there are meeting rooms, fully equipped.

I parked using a meter on the street for $1.00/hr. The parking lot right in front of the building is also $1.00/hr.

This is what it looks like as you walk into the Church Street Exchange building where Canvs is.

And, here's one entrance to Canvs. You'll have no trouble finding your way around, There's bike hangers inside, too! So nice.

Anyway, please keep an eye on the May OrlandoJUG event announcement. I'll confirm that our next meeting, featuring Ken Krueger with a talk about Spring Boot will be at Canvs.

And, please RSVP on that event page. It helps plan. Plus, it makes our speaker feel welcome when he sees lots of RSVP's.

See ya there!
